Even though we usually spend a lot of time in our laundry rooms, oftentimes they are a significant eye sore compared to the rest of the house. The average family in America washes about 8-10 loads of laundry per week. Do you want to improve the look of your laundry room by a simple remodel? If so, here are several easy remodeling tips that will make you feel good when you walk into your laundry room.

Consolidating Your Laundry Room

Laundry rooms are usually one of the smallest rooms in the house and appliances that live in laundry rooms are large and take up a lot of space. One way to improve the visual appeal is by rearranging furniture and appliances so that you are being efficient with your space. This will give you more room to move around when washing your clothes and really open up the space to make the room feel bigger.

There are several different ways to rearrange furniture and appliances to make the best use of your space. One method is to stack your washer and dryer on top of each other. Depending on the model of your appliances this may or may not be applicable to you, but if this is feasible try it out and see if you like it or not!

Another way to consolidate and make efficient use of your space is to put your washer and dryer side by side and install shelves and counter space directly above them. This is a great way to consolidate because it gives you a place to store your laundry detergent and other items along with adding counter space to set your clothes before or after washing.

Walls and Backdrops

If your laundry room is looking stale or bland, one great way to improve the visual appeal for you and your guests is to paint the walls or add a beautiful backdrop behind your washer and dryer. A simple, but elegant backdrop behind your laundry room appliances will make the room much more aesthetically pleasing.

Since most washers and dryers are white or gray, it would be a good idea to make sure that your backdrop isn't a dark color. The color contrast between the appliances and the surrounding walls needs to be very minimal, so I suggest using a simple white backdrop. This will really lighten the room up and make it feel more pleasant when washing clothes.

After you have a backdrop you should try to compliment the new addition with new wall colors. The color that you choose for your wall is obviously very important, so be thorough when searching for paint colors. When choosing a paint color it is important to choose a hue that matches the personality of the person that will be utilizing the room. Light, simple colors with neutral tones are great for people that live a straightforward lifestyle. Deep, dark colors match the lifestyle of people that are busy and don’t enjoy doing laundry.

Countertops and Shelving

As mentioned above, countertops and shelve space will be very helpful for utilizing your laundry room space in the best way possible. Before building the storage space be sure to think about the overall theme that you are aiming towards with your room and make sure that it matches.

When choosing the color of your cabinets and shelves, you can duplicate the color of the backdrop or you can choose a color that compliments it well. Choosing a color for your cabinets that is different than the backdrop can really make your room pop and stand out.

Flooring

Choosing a new floor could be the last much needed step to enhance your laundry room. When looking at the components that make up a room, the floors are essential to the overall style and look of the room. It is important that when choosing a new floor for your laundry room that you tailor your choices to match the walls, shelves, and backdrop.

There are several types of flooring that would revamp the demeanor of your laundry room.

  1. Ceramic tile
  2. This is a very common choice for clients when choosing flooring for their laundry room. This is usually a fairly cheap option and should last a while without much maintenance. If you choose ceramic tile, then you will need to clean the floor often to make sure that the grout between the tile stays clean.
  3. Sheet vinyl
  4. Sheet vinyl is the cheapest flooring option for your laundry room. If you are looking for a low budget renovation and you need a new floor, then this may b a good option.
  5. Stone tile
  6. Stone tile is the most expensive option, but also the most beautiful. This tile will last 20+ years and will be very durable throughout the time. If you are invested in your laundry room and stone tile matches the style, then this would be a great option.
